The History of this Directory
Greetings, On behalf of the Westchester County Interfaith Initiative Subcommittee, we were pleased to partner with the Department of Community Mental Health in offering this Directory of Faith Affirming Mental Health Providers.
In 2021, the initial Faith Affirming Questionnaire was created by Reverend Daphne Swinton (LMHC, MPA) and Minister Kimberly Murray Cruse (MDiv.), in hopes of helping Union Baptist Church, White Plains, New York and Grace Baptist Church, Mount Vernon, New York congregants in need of mental health referrals. They quickly realized that faith sensitive mental health counselors were needed in the community at large. With the support of their Pastors, Reverend Dr. Verlin D. Williams and Reverend Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson they partnered with Pat White (consultant) and the Department of Community Mental Health, to collect data of service providers as a strategy to meet the mental health needs of the inter-faith community.
This ground-breaking Directory reflects services available to multiple faith traditions. There are fifty-eight interfaith providers representing thirty-six agencies plus private practices. The data that is displayed in the following pages delivers valuable clinical and faith affirming information that recipients of care may ponder. We believe churches, mosques, synagogues and other houses of worship will find this to be a valuable.
We would like to offer our sincere thanks to the Westchester County Executive George Latimer, Department of Community Mental Health Commissioner Michael Orth, Crystal Collins the Director of Faith Based Initiatives and Urban Affairs, and the local mental health service providers who completed the questionnaire. Special thank you to the Department of Community Mental Health staff for their administrative assistance.
Sincerely,
Westchester County Interfaith Initiative Subcommittee
